Coffee it’s an art at Caffe Artigiano
It is not every day that Starbucks gets run out of town… OK not exactly out of town. Nutmeg is pretty certain that their lease on 3rd Street SW in Calgary was up and it may have been an under-performing location, so they have closed up shop and Subway is going in. Caffe Artigiano has certainly not missed the competition. On a recent Wednesday afternoon Nutmeg was a bit early for her meeting with Cilantro, so popped in for a latte. Their signature latte is the Spanish Latte with a touch of condensed milk – heaven in a cup! At 2:30pm there was barely a seat to be had in the place and a line up at least 20 deep. These guys have perfected the system, you order and pay as normal at the till and your order comes up on a print out (in order) at the barista end. Unlike Starbucks: no yelling, no call backs, no cups out of order – do you honestly care what the person ahead of you in line is ordering?
Kaffa Coffee and Salsa House – It is Quirky
Some of you may think that Nutmeg is quick to form an opinion and in many cases you might be on the mark. The truth is the case of Kaffa Coffee and Salsa House in Marda Loop (Calgary SW) she has tried to find the nugget in this place over several visits. Happy Valentines and Aphrodisiac Foods
Love it or hate it, February 14 is today. So hug your sweetie or give yourself a special treat. Here is some background:
Saint Valentine’s Day (commonly shortened to Valentine’s Day) is always on February 14 (yes, boys, that is TODAY) to celebrate love and affection. The holiday is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD 496. Traditionally, lovers express their love for each other by presenting gifts (flowers, candy, cards). The holiday first became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. Aphrodite was the mythical goddess of love. Aphrodisiacs were first sought as a remedy for sexual anxieties.

There are many things that Ginger and Nutmeg do not agree upon, however when it comes to coffee we are aligned. Without a doubt the top Calgary pick is Bumpy’s Cafe. They serve a great coffee; there are no bitter, weak or otherwise sub-par shots. The milk is steamed perfectly and they are magicians with the designs on top. Did we mention the home-baked goods? Fresh muffins daily, great oatmeal with toppings, soups and paninis that give Italian delis some competition. Give it a try they are open 7 days a week.
